Reliable SSD manipulation for field-wide deployment

JNO2621402 Reliable SSD Manipulation For Field Wide Deployment
1

First-ever deployment of Welltec® Wellgrab MOVE

2

Two SSDs actuated closed to manage zonal inflow and provide pressure support to adjacent wells

10,000

Successful engagement and manipulation via 10,000 lbs of force

New solution verified for field-wide use

Synopsis

Low side-loading tolerance exhibited by sliding sleeve doors (SSDs) was repeatedly causing slippage and disengagement from a standard shifting tool/key at ~8,000 lbs force, unless it was perfectly centralized. The situation not only threatened to turn a simple manipulation into repeat runs and increased non-productive time but carried far-reaching strategic implications: the operator had well-established plans to use the same sleeve type in multiple wells.

The first-ever deployment of Welltec® Wellgrab MOVE provided a precision actuation and manipulation solution capable of delivering radial force, bypassing the SSDs lock profile. Both SSDs were closed, as planned, via ~10,000 lbs force – later confirmed by high-resolution imaging.
