Rigless retrieval of stuck logging string
At this point the overshot was tractored onto the fishing neck of the stuck tractor and logging string, and the Well Stroker was engaged. Using the Well Stroker’s extendable, hydraulic arm with the ability to push or pull over 20,000 lbs of force, the fish was caught and pulled.
Tension readings from the surface indicated the fish was loose and the toolstring began to be pulled out of the hole. Approx. 1000 ft (330m) from surface, the toolstring became wedged in the Sub Surface Safety Valve (SSSV). The Well Stroker was activated again to stroke through the SSSV and successfully pulled the jammed toolstring through without any damage. The fish was then recovered to surface.
The total operating time was 16:45 hours, with a conveyance time around 27 minutes. The operator concluded that Welltec’s e-line technologies provide a much more efficient way of fishing in tubing than conventional methods, as they, due to their lightweight nature, take significantly less time to mobilize and deploy onto a drilling rig. As well, Welltec’s fishing solution requires less people and therefore delivers a more positive HSE impact to operations.
