Welltec Streamview Pro downhole camera

Location

Kazakhstan

Background

A horizontal oil producer was exhibiting abnormal pressure behavior. A-annulus pressure rose to ~154 bar at the wellhead, followed by continued buildup. Slickline diagnostics attempted to locate a suspected obstruction, but results were inconclusive: gauge cutters and a lead impression block (LIB) confirmed a holdup depth (HUD) near 4,710 mMD but did not identify the cause.

To progress the operation, the operator required a definitive assessment of tubing condition at the HUD. The objective was to verify whether the tubing was collapsed or parted, and to confirm if through-bore access was sufficient to enable lost circulation material placement. Welltec® provided downhole visual analytics in the form of Streamview Pro.

The Welltec Streamview Pro is a downhole camera service designed to deliver high-definition, real-time video of wellbore conditions. Built for challenging environments, Streamview Pro provides 360° visuals via forward and sideview cameras, enabling accurate diagnostics of tubing integrity, obstructions, or completion damage where conventional tools cannot provide clarity.

Operation

A streamlined bottomhole assembly was configured with sinker bars, a swivel, casing collar locator, and the Streamview Pro camera – and was deployed on e-line to the HUD depth.

  • Run-in-hole: The camera was conveyed to 4,718 mMD without incident.
  • Inspection: Using DownView mode, pipe damage was clearly observed at 4,718.4 mMD. Multiple recordings were captured for validation under varying camera angles.
  • Recovery: The assembly was retrieved to surface, and data was processed for operator review.

Achievements

The Streamview Pro inspection delivered high-definition video evidence of tubing deformation at 4,718 mMD, confirming a restriction consistent with mechanical damage likely linked to salt intrusion.

By removing uncertainty from the inconclusive LIB runs, the operator gained clear diagnostics to guide subsequent intervention planning.

The ability to visually verify wellbore conditions before deploying mechanical tools reduced operational risk, while faster decision-making helped avoid unnecessary runs, saving both time and costs.

In addition, the camera provided a permanent visual record, supporting detailed reporting and long-term well integrity management.
