The Welltec Release Device can be activated in one of two ways:
1) Command from surface
2) Timer-executed release that occurs after the tool string has been immobilized under down hole pressure conditions
As a result, the WRD releases only when down hole and when the timer exceeds the preset time or when a signal is sent from the surface. When the Welltec Release Device is activated, two pistons move causing the device to part and release the downward part of the tool string. Afterwards, the upper part of the tool string can be hoisted out of the well. A 1 3/8” fishing neck is left in the well with the rest of the tool string to allow conventional fishing operations to take place.
As a further technology refinement, we are able to include two WRDs at different locations on the tool string simultaneously. They can be to set to release at different times when the string is placed under pressure.
