Drill Pipe Back-Off

September 2000

The Well Tractor was applied to perform a back-off operation offshore. The drill pipe was to be backed off in the deviated section of the well utilizing a back-off charge (prima-cord) run on electric wireline. The back off charge was run in hole and held up at 7,100 ft in the deviated section.

The Well Tractor was engaged and conveyed the back-off charge down to 17,600 ft. The depth was correlated and the charge was pulled back to 17,213 ft where it was detonated.

The drill pipe was backed off successfully in one run, after the well had been static for 6 days and circulation could not be achieved. The job took 14 hours.
