World’s First Well Tractor® Intervention from Sub Sea Intervention Ship
September 2000
The world’s first Well Tractor intervention run from a sub sea well intervention ship was performed in the North Sea in September 2000. Services performed were drift run and 4 run 25 ft 3 3/8” oriented guns.
All pressure equipment was placed on seabed in a water depth of 1,000 ft. The objective was to perforate several zones in order to obtain an increased injection rate. Due to rig-up height limitations, the Well Tractor was configured with 2 drive sections.
Setting a New Standard
The Well Tractor exceeded its own speed standards during this operation. The configuration resulted in a maximum speed of 4,530 ft per hour with a total tool length of only 18 ft.
The operator achieved cost savings by using a sub sea intervention ship rather than a fourth generation semi submersible mobile rig.
Well Data
Maximum Well Tractor depth: 15,431 ft
Maximum deviation: 79.15°
Maximum temperature: 122° F
Accumulated running distance: 2,082 ft
