The open hole Well Tractor performed a successful MDT logging job in the Statfjord field in Norway. The well path was S-shaped above the reservoir section with a maximum inclination of 70º, which dropped to about 20º in the reservoir section.
The MDT tool was run in hole on wireline to about 8.5 ft MD RKB. At this point, the well reached an inclination of 69.4º. The Well Tractor was then powered up and tractored down to around 10.8 ft MD RKB across the part of the well where the inclination reached 70º. When the angle dropped, the Well Tractor was turned off and logging was completed on wireline. The pressure points were taken while running in hole on wireline; they reached a total of 18 points.
The benefits of the operation were obvious. Two days were saved compared to a TLC logging job; one day due to less time spent on the job and one day due to leaving out wipetrip after logging. Additionally, the risk of lost circulation was reduced, which increased the probability of a good cement job since the open hole is exposed for a shorter time.
