A Technology Medley:
Combining the Well Tractor®, Well Stroker® and Well Cleaner®

November 2002

The first job ever performed with the Well Stroker, Well Cleaner and Well Tractor was performed in Norway in November 2002. A well needed to be cleaned for straddle so the zone below could be perforated and a 50 ft straddle assembly set. The operation involved four runs:

First Run: Cleaning the designated area for packer element and seal stack. For this operation, the 218 Well Tractor was run in combination with the Well Cleaner with multiple ID Well Brush.

Second Run: Ensuring seal stack properly set in real profile/NO-GO. We used the 318 Well Tractor and the 318 Well Stroker.

Third Run: Conveying a 25 ft 2 7/8” gun. For this operation, the 318 Well Tractor was used along with a 6 spf gun.

Fourth Run: Ensuring seal stack entered completely into seal bore/NO-GO. By using the 318 Well Stroker in conjunction with the 318 Well Tractor, the straddle assembly was pushed downwards with about 15,000 lbs (pre-set force).

The technical solution was chosen due to the Well Cleaner's capacity to clean in various ID’s, in this case 4” and 3.62” in one single run. Furthermore, the Well Stroker’s pushing/pulling force was optimal for ensuring seal stack of the straddle assembly correct set against the NO-GO.

Savings

Because the operation was conducted on wireline, the client saved approximately US $1.5 million versus a coiled tubing operation.

Time savings were also achieved due to the Well Cleaner’s ability to clean various ID’s on the same run.
