May 2008
In the UK part of the North Sea, BP ran their first trial run of a new production logging (PL) string in May 2008. The objective of the trial run was to record oil, gas and water hold-ups in a well and also to evaluate the results obtained in a horizontal well compared with results achieved from a traditional PLT string. This would provide views on future applications in the North Sea.
For this operation, Welltec provided the Well Tractors to deploy the tool string in the horizontal section of the well. The wireline Well Tractors ran to Total Depth (TD) with bow spring centralizers in order to confirm access with the PL.
Achievements
The Well Tractors performed ideally, reaching TD without difficulties or issues.
All objectives were achieved during this operation where people, equipment and the environment were safeguarded.
Good quality PL data was recorded, identifying the zones for possible future water and gas shut-offs. The results achieved will be utilized to re-assess the long term reservoir management strategy.
