In Alaska, an operator had repeatedly attempted to set and pull out a 13” shear out valve, but without success. In stead, the operator decided to use the Well Tractor in combination with the Well Stroker, both 3 1/8” size. A kickover tool and slick line pulling/setting tool were also provided.
The shear out valve was set and pulled out in 19 hours and 25 minutes, by far outperforming slick line that had been attempted 20 times before the Well Stroker set in.
Other benefits when using the Well Stroker for this job was eliminating the need for heavy lifts and also avoiding the use of explosives, which ensured a safer operation.
