Responsible Environmental Management

We designed sustainability into our technology, manufacturing practices and service delivery from the beginning. To provide a sense of our commitment to responsible environmental management, we highlight a few examples below. The list is not exhaustive and continues to grow every day.

Our technology is clean and safe. We design it to minimize waste, replacement and disposal over its lifecycle. Many hydraulic fluids are toxic and can harm workers as wells as the environment, but we have designed our hydraulic fluid around substances approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Furthermore, we employ sustainable manufacturing practices; most of our manufacturing comprises cutting and grinding of hardened metal parts by skilled craftsmen. We do not have the emissions and carbon footprint of heavier manufacturing operations - our primary waste product is metal shavings. We collect all our shavings and separate oil and water from them. The shavings are recycled into new steel, and liquids are sent for reprocessing.

We pay close attention to the social aspects of our manufacturing processes and our workplace in general. As an example, our manufacturing facility has large windows and lots of natural light. An additional environmental benefit is that we can conserve energy needed for lighting, which we further promote with energy-saving light fixtures that do not use incandescent bulbs. Additionally, the money we save by recycling our shavings is returned to employees for a social fund.

We seek to have an environmentally-sustainable supply chain. We review our vendors and suppliers to ensure they are environmentally-friendly. Our primary raw material is steel, which we source from companies that comply with all local rules and share our concern for the environment. Some of our components are outsourced to third-party manufacturers, but we only outsource to companies that also have strong environmental practices.

The environment is built into our business processes, management systems and approach to risk management. At Welltec, our leaders set the example from the top. Environmental performance is part of our definition of quality. We consider environment, health and safety when planning our services and review them after service completion. We take responsibility for training our employees in what they need to do in order to be safe and protect the environment. We hold ourselves accountable for our performance and seek to improve it continuously and proactively.
