Welltec is the first company to set an XN plug in the Gulf of Mexico using mechanical services deployed on electric wireline. The plug was successfully set in a nipple at a high well deviation (78°).

Due to the slim hole well, the 2 1/8” Well Tractor tractored the toolstring to the required depth where the 2 1/8” Well Stroker was activated to mechanically set the plug in the nipple. It was possible to run the entire solution from an existing wireline unit on location, which eliminated the need to call out heavier, alternative methods.

The well was handed back to production 4 days earlier than the nearest alternative technique. Apart from the obvious huge cost savings in applying Welltec’s robotics well intervention technique, there also were a number of HSE benefits:
