Winner of the OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award
For the second consecutive year, Welltec has won the OTC Spotlight on New Technology Award. This year, we will be taking home the award for the Well Cleaner PST (Power Suction Tool) following our success with the Well Miller RCB (Reverse Circulating Bit) in 2008.
The award is designed to highlight new technologies in the oil and gas industry for companies exhibiting at OTC (Offshore Technology Conference). Technologies must meet five criteria to be considered for the award: new, innovative, proven, broad interest and significant impact. Following these criteria, the Well Cleaner PST is a unique wireline cleaning system that offers efficiencies never seen before in conventional slickline bailing. It is possible to remove and recover to surface up to one metric ton of sand per run from producing wells. By comparison, slickline bailers recover between 4-9 liters of sand.
Due to its large drawdown, the Well Cleaner PST is able to lift sand into long bailer sections and provide cost benefits over “heavy” pipe solutions due to less mobilization of people and equipment. During operations, well fluid and solids are taken in, solids are filtered out and cleaned fluids are returned to the wellbore. It is possible to apply different inlet nozzles in order to pick up sand on the low side as well as break through massive sand bridges.
The Well Cleaner PST is developed by Welltec while being sponsored by StatoilHydro and Shell.
We will receive the award at a ceremony held on 4th of May 2009 at the Offshore Technology Conference that is one of the world’s largest oil and gas industry venues. The ceremony is open to all conference attendees.
