Welltec Has Developed the World’s Most Powerful Wireline Bailing System

By combining proven technology with novel thinking, an innovative cleaning system has been developed by Welltec. The Well Cleaner PST (Power Suction Tool) is run on electric wireline, which optimizes logistical efficiency while providing the effective recovery of sand and debris from producing wells. Up to one metric ton of sand can be bailed – per run.
The Well Cleaner PST takes in well fluid and solids, filters out the solids and returns the cleaned fluid to the wellbore. One of the major advantages over conventional pipe cleanouts is that all the sand in the well can be removed due to the breakthrough design. It is designed around a vacuum system, which means that all the sand is removed from the well and recovered to surface for a more effective cleanout. Due to the very large pressure drop provided by the pump, the Well Cleaner PST is more effective for lifting sand up into the bailer sections.
Field Performance
The very first job with the Well Cleaner PST was performed offshore in October 2008 for StatoilHydro. They could not determine whether a bridge plug had moved 26 ft, or 26 ft of sand had settled on top of the plug. Due to an increase in the gas to oil ratio, they believed the latter to be the case. In three runs, and with the bailers nearly full of coarse sand, the problem of a hole in the pipe was identified as the actual source of the sand. Following the operation, StatoilHydro stated: “The PST is a new and improved tool that expands our possibilities within lightweight well intervention. The tool met our expectations, both technically and financially. When applied in the right wells, the PST will give huge cost savings.”
Since December 2008, the Well Cleaner PST has been deployed in two more offshore operations. One job has recovered over 1300 lbs of sand to surface.
