T
Tender document
An offer made by a company to perform a job. This offer should list how the proposed job will be carried out.
Tertiary recovery
The process that takes place when the natural pressure of the underground and stimulation has been used to recover the oil. If the last amounts of oil should be recovered, it takes complicated processes, for instance heating up the field in order to make the oil thinner.
Throughput
A term to describe the total amount of raw material being treated for a certain period of time.
Through tubing
Operations performed from inside the tubings of an already existing well.
Tongs
The hydraulic wheels holding the joints when they need to be screwed together or separated. Also called pipe tongs.
Tool joint
The thread at the end of the drill pipe. In the one end there is a male-thread, in the other a female-thread.
Top drive
The equipment turning the drill string. This consists of one or more motors (electrical or hydraulic) connected with the right gear to a short joint called a quill.
Torr
International measurement unit for measuring pressure in gasses.
760 torr = 1 atmosphere.
Total depth (TD)
The bottom of a certain section of the hole where the drilling has stopped, logs have been made and the casing collar cemented, before next phase is started with a smaller diameter.
Transmissibility
A formation rock’s ability to transmit or transport the fluid it contains.
True vertical depth (TVD)
The vertical distance from a point in the well (usually the current or final depth) to a point at surface (usually the height of the rotary Kelly bushing). If the well is vertical, measured depth (MD) will be the same as TVD.
True vertical depth
Tubing
The steel elements in the middle of the well from where the out flow reaches the surface. Tubing is usually separated from casing collars by the fact that that tubing is not always a permanent installation.
Tubing puncher
A special type of perforating gun designed for limited access. A tubing puncher makes it possible to perforate inner tubings or casing collars without damaging the surrounding outer string.
Turbine drilling
A kind of drilling technique where the drill string is kept in place while the drill bit rotates due to a turbine system driving the drilling mud.
TVD (True Vertical Depth)
Abbreviation for True Vertical Depth. The vertical depth is smaller that the drilled depth because the wellbore is never drilled exactly horizontal.
