Inclination
The deviation of a well measured in degrees from vertical. Inclination values are positive for fluids flowing upwards and negative for fluids flowing downwards.
Inert
A term describing substances (usually gasses) that do not react with other substances.
Infill drilling/well
Wells located between other producing wells. The purpose of infill drilling is to explore a field further.
Injection well
A well where fluids are injected rather than produced, usually gas or water, that are pumped into the subsoil in order to maintain reservoir pressure in the field.
Input well
A well where water or gas is pumped through in order to maintain or increase the pressure in the subsoil.
Integrated
When used in connection with an oil company, integrated refers to the fact that the company works within the upstream and downstream sectors.
Intelligent well technology
A kind of technology that combines sensors and remote controls to detect production difficulties and to solve them without an expensive well intervention.
Interstitial water
Water embedded in the tiny pores of an oil-containing rock.
I.P. (Institute of Petroleum)
British organisation that works for promoting the study of oil. The officially recognised authority for standardisations.
